Toolroom lathes are primarily used to machine (or turn) round, cylindrical parts, but they can also be adapted to create a wide variety of unique and irregular shapes. These machines are capable of drilling, reaming, turning, knurling, cutting, and shaping metal components. The type of lathe found in the UCR Mechanical Engineering Machine Shop is a manual lathe, commonly referred to as a toolroom lathe.
